General Emergency Information

Find out about our general emergency protocols below.

When should I bring my pet to an emergency vet? What constitutes a pet emergency?

It can be difficult to know if your pet should be seen through emergency care, but in general we advise that if your pet is behaving abnormally or if you are concerned for their well-being to either bring your pet in or give us a call. We are open 24/7/365.

What are some of the common reasons for emergency visits?

Symptoms that may signal an emergency include: difficulty breathing, severe bleeding, seizures, collapse, inability to urinate/defecate, severe vomiting/diarrhea, ingestion of toxins, major trauma (hit by car, fall), extreme pain, sudden weakness, bloated/distended abdomen, pale gums, unresponsiveness, eye injuries, and difficult labor.

Do I need an appointment for emergency veterinary services?

Rise Pet Health sees emergency patients according to a triage system, seeing the most critical patients first, regardless of arrival time. We do not require an appointment for an emergency, but you are always welcome to call us ahead of bringing your pet to our hospital.

Are you open 24/7? Is there a veterinarian on premises at all times?

Rise Pet Health is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year for emergency cases. We have dedicated emergency specialists including multiple ER doctors, boarded criticalists, and over 80 support team members who are ready and available to care for your pet in an emergency.

Can I call for advice over the phone?

Due to the requirement for a physical examination and to establish a doctor-patient relationship, offering detailed medical advice over the phone is limited, but please call us to discuss your pet’s symptoms with our team.

Do you accept pet insurance?

We work with multiple insurance companies including Trupanion Express, which depending on your policy, offers payment at time of service. For other pet insurance providers, you submit a claim and they will assess and potentially approve your claim and reimburse you for the eligible portion of your vet bill.

Will you communicate with my regular veterinarian?

Yes, our veterinarians will reach out to your pets primary care veterinarian to discuss the reason for the visit and medical history. Once your pet has been discharged we will share your pets medical records with your primary veterinarian to ensure continuity of care.

If you're worried about your pet, contact Rise Pet Health at (949) 787-7473, or visit us right away to see an emergency vet.
