Best Part of My Job:
The best part of my job is the relationships I build with my patients and the humans who care for them. Taking time to listen and then follow up are key to ensuring I can use my talents to their fullest to help my patients live their healthiest lives.
Special Talent:
One of my favorite things about internal medicine is the ability to use advanced procedures such as fluoroscopy and image-guided interventions to help pets. Traditionally, video endoscopy has been primarily used as a diagnostic tool. By combining various imaging modalities with video endoscopy, we are able to improve a pet’s quality of life with placement of airway support stents in cases involving severe airway collapse and with urinary stents for inoperable bladder and urethral tumors. I am also fascinated with interventional procedures involving the use of our Holmium:YAG laser. The laser device, when combined with video endoscopy and fluoroscopy can break and dislodge urinary stones that are not accessible using traditional surgical techniques. The laser can also be used to correct certain congenital urinary defects including ectopic ureters without traditional surgery. I have worked hard during my career to develop a strong expertise in these areas.
One thing people may not know about me:
I grew up in Hawaii and while I love scuba diving and body surfing – I have somehow managed to never set foot on a surfboard!
What you’ll find me doing in my free time:
Recapturing my youth through adventures on my off-road motorcycle.
My pet family:
While traveling in Alaska I got a call about a Great Pyrenees puppy with a broken leg. We agreed to adopt him and named him Denali. I also have 3 cats: Menchi, Timmy (who will amaze you despite only having three legs), and our newest addition Artichoke.
